Family mediation is a way of resolving the disputes that accompany the breakdown of parental and family relationships, outside the adversarial process / a means of establishing communication between separating or divorced parents.  With the support of a trained neutral third party, clients enter into a voluntary process that allows the dispute and its resolution to remain within the control of the parents and families concerned rather than being settled by the judgement of the court.  Parents who are separating or divorced are given the opportunity to reach their own mutually acceptable arrangements for their children.  Other family situations arising as a result of parental separation can be helped through counselling or mediation, e.g. children, young people or parents struggling to cope with new arrangements / estranged grandparents / step-family difficulties.

On 1^st April 2010 the Fife Child Contact Centre based in Kirkcaldy merged with Relationships Scotland Family Mediation Tayside & Fife and is managed from the premises at 30 North Street, Glenrothes, with Supervised Contact now on offer.  Supported Contact and Supervised Contact operates from Kirkcaldy Contact Centre based at the Cottage Family Centre, as well as Glenrothes Contact Centre based at The Salvation Army hall, on Saturdays from 10 am to 4 pm.

It is envisaged over the next year to open a Child Contact Centre in Dunfermline, thus making the service more accessible throughout Fife.
