Fife Health and Wellbeing Alliance

Fife Health and Wellbeing Alliance (FWHA) is a community planning strategic partnership which has the responsibility to provide a strategic lead for improving health and wellbeing and reducing health inequalities in Fife and to ensure that organisations work together and genuinely engage communities in doing this.

It reports directly to the Fife Partnership, which leads community planning in Fife.

In line with Fife's Community Plan, 'A Stronger Future for Fife, FHWA has a responsibility to

  • ensure the delivery of Fife's Community Plan around the agreed strategic priorities of improving health and wellbeing and reducing health inequalities.
  • provide a strong health and wellbeing element to the delivery of the Community Plan.
  • provide strategic focus within which partner organisations and local communities can reduce health inequalities; create healthier environments and support healthier lifestyles.

Health and Wellbeing Co-ordination Group

The Health and Wellbeing Co-ordination Group supports Fife Health and Wellbeing Alliance (FHWA)  by providing information for decision making,      ensuring the implementation of decisions made by FHWA, and taking     forward health improvement work on behalf of FHWA. Membership includes senior representation from the partner  agencies who make up FHWA – currently NHS Fife, Fife Council and  CVS Fife.

Strategy/task Groups

Strategy/ task groups around the topic areas of Sexual Health, Physical Activity, Food and Health, Choose Life (suicide prevention), Oral Health, Breastfeeding, and Tobacco Issues, also support FHWA. These groups have the lead role for implementing national strategy and managing related funding streams locally, so are key to improving health and wellbeing in Fife. They also lead on the implementation and monitoring of focus areas within the JHIP which link to their topic area.

Other supporting groups

During 2006 and 2007 three other working groups have been contributing to FHWA’s work to improve health and wellbeing and reduce health inequalities. These are the JHIP Development Group, the Health Improvement Fund Group and the Health Improvement Learning and Development Group.
The roles and relationships between these groups are currently being developed to ensure continued support around the implementation, co-ordination and evaluation of the Joint Health Improvement Plan 2007-10.
